Sermon Notes

In Genesis 16 – When Faith Falters, Abram and Sarai allow their emotions to drive their decisions instead of God’s Word. Their marriage and life suffer as a result. The compounding effects of sin can lead to significant dysfunction in marriage and relationships. It all began with a male spiritual leadership as Abram chose the easier path and capitulated on the truth of God’s Word. Listen to Genesis 16 –When Faith Falters and experience how this message relates perfectly to the common problems we are facing as a culture today.

ABRAM & SARAI’S FAITH FALTERED THE COMPOUNDING EFFECTS OF SIN

‘Jesus answered them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin.”’

COMMON DYSFUNCTIONS IN MARRIAGE:

  • Emotional Decision Making
  • The Blame Game
  • Lack of Male Spiritual Leadership

“The husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body. Therefore, just as the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything. Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her.”

Ephesians 5:23-25 (NKJV), https://www.blueletterbible.org/nkjv/eph/5/23-25/s_1102023

Why Abram abdicated his role as spiritual leader to Sarai:

1)  It Was the Easier Path

2)  It Appealed to His Fleshly Desires
3)  He Compromised the Integrity of God’s Word

A. W. Tozer said, “A whole new generation of Christians has come up believing that it is possible to ‘accept’ Christ without forsaking the world.”
