Genesis 27:34-28:9 – The Danger of Vain Religion.  The Bible says, “God owns the cattle on a thousand hills.” Yet Esau, like many today, desired to receive God’s blessings without ever seeking to know God. What does God do when we come seeking His rich blessings but are not actually seeking Him? To find out, enjoy this powerful message from Pastor David Menard, in Genesis 27 that reveals the heart of God, and The Danger of Vain Religion.

ESAU MOURNS HIS LOSS OF GOD’S BLESSINGS BUT HAS NO DESIRE TO KNOW GOD

“Watch out for the Esau syndrome: trading away God’s lifelong gift in order to satisfy a short-term appetite. You well know how Esau later regretted that impulsive act and wanted God’s blessing – but by then it was too late, tears or no tears.”

WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM GOD?

Genesis 27-28 - The Danger of Vain Religion

“I, the LORD, search the heart, I test the mind, even to give every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his doings.”

“I, GOD, search the heart and examine the mind. I get to the heart of the human. I get to the root of things. I treat them as they really are, not as they pretend to be.”

“The LORD is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves such as have a contrite spirit.”

“O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth shall show forth Your praise. For You do not desire sacrifice, or else I would give it. You do not delight in burnt offering. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, a broken and a contrite heart. These, O God, You will not despise.”
Psalm 51:15-17, NKJV     https://www.blueletterbible.org/nkjv/psa/51/15-17/s_529015

“Jesus answered them and said, ‘Most assuredly, I say to you, you seek Me, not because you saw the signs, but because you ate of the loaves and were filled.’”
John 6:26, NKJV     https://www.blueletterbible.org/nkjv/jhn/6/26/s_1003026

ESAU HATES HIS BROTHER

“He who says he is in the light, and hates his brother, is in darkness until now. He who loves his brother abides in the light, and there is no cause for stumbling in him. But he who hates his brother is in darkness and walks in darkness, and does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes.”
1 John 2:9-11, NKJV     https://www.blueletterbible.org/nkjv/1jo/2/9-11/s_1161009

VENGEANCE belongs to the Lord

“‘You shall not hate your brother in your heart. You shall surely rebuke your neighbor, and not bear sin because of him. You shall not take vengeance, nor bear any grudge against the children of your people, but you shall love your neighbor as
yourself: I am the LORD.'”
