Sermon Notes

Hosea Chapters 1-2, The Scandalous Love of God. Our society is obsessed with power, wealth, and sexuality. Thousands of years ago Israel chased and worshiped the same glittering idols modern man is worshiping today. Astonishingly, God instructs Hosea, God’s prophet to Israel, to marry a prostitute; the holy pursuing what is lost and vile. Through simile, God seeks to open Israel’s blind eyes to their spiritual adultery to the God who has been faithful to them with an unwavering love. Can a people who have cheated on God for hundreds of years come back into right relationship with Him? What will it take for this to happen? Don’t miss Pastor David’s powerful sermon, Hosea 1-2, The Scandalous Love of God!

Hosea had a difficult ministry

26 (King) Jeroboam said in his heart, “Now the kingdom may return to the house of David: 27 If these people go up to offer sacrifices in the house of the LORD at Jerusalem, then the heart of this people will turn back to Rehoboam king of Judah, and they will kill me and go back to Rehoboam king of Judah.” 28 Therefore the king asked advice, made two calves of gold, and said to the people, “It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem. Here are your gods, Oh Israel, which brought you up from the land of Egypt!” 29 And he set up one in Bethel, and the other he put in Dan. 30 Now this thing became a sin, for the people went to worship before the one as far as Dan. 31 He made shrines on the high places, and made priests from every (low) class of people, who were not of the sons of Levi.

7 Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. 8 For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life. 9 And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.

God’s hope in discipline is to BRING US TO TRUTH

Grace has won us when it has won our hearts. When we yield to God not with a mere external obedience but w the affection of our heart, then all is won, then all is well.
