Sermon Notes

Genesis 2:8-17 – God’s Garden of Eden reveals the very desires God had when He chose to create man. There is something sacred and tranquil about spending time a beautiful garden. It turns out we were created for this very thing. Unexpectedly, Eden reveals much about our deep-seated human needs. Tranquility and glory are words not often found in the same sentence. And yet humans long for both. The Garden of Eden reveals why. Genesis 2:8-17 – God’s Garden of Eden is an insightful message that will help you better understand God, and yourself.

GOD HIMSELF PLANTED A GARDEN FOR MAN
God desires fellowship with man

In the book of Psalms it says: “O Lord my God, you are very great! You are clothed with splendor and majesty, covering yourself with light as with a garment, stretching out the heavens like a tent.”
Psalm 104:1-2, (ESV)     https://www.blueletterbible.org/esv/psa/104/1-2/s_582001

The Prophet Ezekiel it has (God speaking to Lucifer) “You were the seal of perfection, Full of wisdom and perfect in beauty. You were in Eden, the garden of God. Every precious stone was your covering: the sardius, topaz, and diamond, beryl, onyx, and jasper, sapphire, turquoise, and emerald with gold. The workmanship of your timbrels and pipes was prepared for you on the day you were created. “You were the anointed cherub who covers. I established you. You were on the holy mountain of God. You walked back and forth in the midst of fiery stones. You were perfect in your ways from the day you were created, Till iniquity was found in you.”

YOU ARE A VESSEL CREATED TO REFLECT GOD AND DISPLAY HIS GLORY

The Prophet Isaiah penned these words: “ Ho! Everyone who thirsts, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat. Yes, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. 2 Why do you spend your money for what is not bread, and your wages for what does not satisfy? Listen carefully to Me, and eat what is good, and let your soul delight itself in abundance. 3 Incline your ear, and come to Me. Hear, and your soul shall live; and I will make an everlasting covenant with you – the sure mercies of David.”

God gives man divine purpose in God’s Kingdom: TEND & KEEP THE GARDEN

The Apostle Paul wrote this: “And we urge you, brothers, admonish the idle, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with them all.”
1 Thessalonians 5:14, (ESV)     https://www.blueletterbible.org/esv/1th/5/14/s_1116014

“For even when we were with you, we would give you this command: If anyone is not willing to work, let him not eat. For we hear that some among you walk in idleness, not busy at work, but busybodies. Now such persons we command and encourage in the Lord Jesus Christ to do their work quietly and to earn their own living.”

The Trees of the Garden
1) Pleasant to the sight
2) Good for Food
3) Tree of Life
4) The Knowledge of Good and Evil

The Apostle John quotes Jesus saying: “I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”
John 10:10, (NKJV)     https://www.blueletterbible.org/nkjv/jhn/10/10/s_1007010

God created Adam with the capacity to COMPREHEND God’s love.

The tree of The Knowledge of Good and Evil
gave Adam the ability to RESPOND to God’s love.

OUR FREE CHOICE TO RESPOND/ REJECT GOD’S LOVE
CAME AT A HIGH COST TO GOD

One Command: DO NOT DECIDE WHAT IS GOOD AND EVIL

The Prophet Isaiah wrote this inspiration from God: “Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; Who put darkness for light, and light for darkness; Who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!”
Isaiah 5:20-21, (NKJV)     https://www.blueletterbible.org/nkjv/isa/5/20-21/s_684020

Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him. 24 He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine but the Father’s who sent Me.
