Sermon Notes

Genesis 21:1-14 – The Faithfulness of God, Abraham and Sarah waited 25 years into their old age to have a child and for God to fulfill His promise. Despite Sarah being menopausal and Abraham being 100 years old, God’s promise comes true and Isaac is born! Like Abraham, many Christians experience extensive periods of waiting on the Lord that result in doubt, fear and even an attempt to take matters into your own hands. Genesis 21:1-14 – The Faithfulness of God, Pastor David’s message reveals the certainty of God’s promises not by your own effort, but instead by faith.

Take comfort in the faithfulness of God
This is a faithful saying: For if we died with Him, we shall also live with Him. If we endure (hardship / trials), we shall also reign with Him. If we deny Him, He also will deny us. If we are faithless, He remains faithful (to judge us), He cannot deny Himself.

“I am God, and there is none like Me, declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times things that are not yet done, saying, ‘My counsel shall stand, and I will do all My pleasure.’”

Genesis 21 - The Faithfulness of God
For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the first principles of the oracles of God; and you have come to need milk and not solid food. For everyone who partakes only of milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, for he is a babe. But solid food belongs to those who are of full age, that is, those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

GOD’S PROMISES CAN ONLY BE RECEIVED BY FAITH
THEY CANNOT BE EARNED BY HUMAN EFFORT

For it is written that Abraham had two sons: the one by a bondwoman, the other by a freewoman. But he who was of the bondwoman was born according to the flesh, and he of the freewoman (was born) through (God’s) promise, which things are symbolic.
Galatians 4:22-23, NKJV    https://www.blueletterbible.org/nkjv/gal/4/22-23/s_1095022

But, as he who was born according to the flesh then persecuted him who was born according to the Spirit, even so it is now. Nevertheless what does the Scripture say? “Cast out the bondwoman and her son, for the son of the bondwoman shall not be heir with the son of the freewoman.” So then, brethren, we are not children of the bondwoman but of the free.
